Lux Mundi Essay
All eighth-grade students write an essay on the topic “How will your Catholic education prepare you to be a Light of the world?” The winning essay is read at Mass during Catholic Schools Week, and an award is made at the graduation ceremony.
DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Essay
The Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contest is offered annually for students in grades five through eight. Historical topics change each year, but all require research and organization. Students may be creative in their approach to the topic.
United Daughters of the Confederacy Essay
The United Daughters of the Confederacy, a patriotic, educational group, sponsors an essay contest about history involving the Civil War. The essay is offered in grades five through eight and requires research, organization, and a creative approach.
Spelling Bee
Students in grades five through eight compete with fellow students to become the spelling champions of their grade level. After several practice spelling bees per grade level, a contestant and an alternate are selected to compete in the Deanery Spelling Bee held in Savannah during Catholic Schools Week. SFXCS students enjoy the friendly competition of other Catholic School students in the Diocese: Blessed Sacrament, Notre Dame Academy, St. Frances Cabrini, St. James, and St. Peter the Apostle.
